The Life Fitness Center had its beginnings in the Fairview Running Club, established by Gwen Willits, Vince Barefoot, and Curtis Karber.  What began as a group of local people interested in physical fitness eventually evolved into a workout facility with a board of directors.  The original board members of the Life Fitness Center were Debbie Karber, Beth Barefoot, Don Boyer, Mary Jane Reese, K.C. Montgomery, Mac McDowell, Cheryl Klinger, Mary McFadden, Gary Rowe, and Shirley Shirley.  They lacked a facility, but found the old city library was empty due to the newly constructed City Complex. They were able to rent the empty space from the City of Fairview and put their personal equipment in the facility.  They also took out a small loan to purchase a few new pieces of equipment. The Life Fitness Center, Inc., was established in February of 1997 as a 501 c 3 not-for-profit, and the facility opened its doors to the public a few months later in June of 1997.  Ever since then, Life Fitness Center’s profits have been used to maintain the facility, update equipment, purchase new items as needed, and, most importantly, continue advancing its purpose. That purpose is to provide, promote, and encourage physical health, fitness, recreation, and well-being of its members and the general public.  To that end, Life Fitness Center offers access to cardio equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, etc.), free weights, and resistance machines, and creates opportunities for community members to take part in fitness classes. The Life Fitness Center is still governed by a board of directors who volunteer their time and expertise to maintain and oversee the facility:  Don Boyer, Vicky Neufeld, Tammy VanMeter, Tammy Price, Shirley Shirley, Brenda Bartel, Bruce Boehs, Vicky Ewbank, and Keith Whiteneck.
